The Newbury of Brookline
In the Fisher Hill neighborhood, Finegold Alexander Architects served as the Architect of Record alongside project Design Architect RAMSA and Interior Designer Pembrooke & Ives for the new construction and renovation of The Newbury of Brookline, a premier senior living community. The campus includes 159 apartments with a mix of 40 memory care, 38 assisted living, and 81 independent living units. Central to the design is the historic Mitton House, an 1895 mansion meticulously repurposed by Finegold Alexander to accommodate residential units and ample amenity space. Interior and exterior spaces were carefully restored to retain historic features and craftsmanship. The transformation of the Mitton House, formerly a portion of Newbury College until the school closed in 2019, honors the architectural legacy of the neighborhood with elegant touches to the interior and exterior to support the lifestyles of its residents in a community-rich environment.

The Newbury project is a true testament to what is achievable through collaboration. We are proud to be Architect-of-Record for the first Kisco Senior Living community in Massachusetts, providing residents with an elegant and comfortable environment that seamlessly merges the modern new construction with the historic preserved 1895 Mitton House.

Site Sustainability
Sustainability played a large role in the design, with goals of a LEED Gold certified rating, accomplished using Passive House and WELL strategies, as well as 64.5% energy reduction over median properties according to the Energy Star calculations. Additionally, the client and team pursued an all-electric approach for building mechanical systems. The commercial kitchen is also electric ready in anticipation of future reductions in gas use.

The Newbury exemplifies Kisco's dedication to elevating the experience of senior living, and we are proud to open our doors in such a historically rich and vibrant neighborhood.
