We're excited to present the second video in our series exploring Finegold Alexander's extensive work with adaptive reuse and historic buildings. Adaptive reuse is at the heart of our firm's identity, embodying our mission to reimagine and revitalize existing structures.
With over 50 years of expertise in this field, we are pioneers in the adaptive reuse movement, transforming the landscape of architectural sustainability and historic preservation. In this episode, we sit down with Tony Hsiao, Principal and Director of Design, who has been a key figure in our firm for many years. Tony offers an in-depth look at our project, The Lucas at 136 Shawmut Avenue.
Located in Boston’s South End, this church-turned-condominium seamlessly blends the craftsmanship of the past with modern amenities, creating a unique urban living experience. Our design preserved the historic façade, removed the roof, and integrated eight stories of diverse floor plans within the Gothic shell. The bold steel and glass structure rises from the massive stone walls, honoring the architectural and tectonic qualities of the original edifice while breathing new life into the neighborhood.
