Small Renovation, Big Campus Impact

A design transformation that provides a safe, bright and welcoming environment for all students

Cranston High School West

Cranston Public Schools
Cranston, RI

Finegold Alexander Architects worked closely with Cranston Public Schools on the renovation of Cranston High School West. Originally built on a 28-acre campus in the 1950’s, Cranston High School West serves over 1,500 students and 150 faculty and staff members. The renovation included the design of a new kitchen servery and renovations at the main entrance to create a secure entry with a waiting area and a security vestibule. The design transforms the formerly dated lobby into a vibrant and welcoming space for students to gather, collaborate and interact. Taken together, these strategic interventions will ensure that Cranston High School West’s education program continues to deliver RESPECT (Responsibility, Engagement, Success, Performance, Environment, Character, and Traditions) to inform the core values, beliefs and learning expectations of its students.

“This project has completely transformed our campus. It’s the first thing that families and kids see when they come to school. It’s a much safer environment, a much brighter environment for our students and it’s created a new space for students to learn and hang out before school, during school and after school. They can enjoy their experience better here at Cranston West.”

“The previous space was big and open, but pretty useless and not functional at all. Now it has a purpose and the kids immediately gravitate to the space, where previously they would sit on the floor and it was dark; but here it’s warm and inviting.”
--Jeannine Nota-Masse, Superintendent of Schools, Cranston Public Schools
