High Profile recently included Finegold Alexander’s Eliot Innovation School 585 Commercial Street and 173 Salem Street projects in an article by Principal Christopher Lane, AIA, MCPPO. The feature, “Two Schools, Two Approaches to Transforming Existing Buildings,” discusses the effort to utilize existing infrastructure to transform the spaces into schools with a contemporary curriculum and a rapidly growing student population, under tight city conditions.

Beginning with an overview of Boston’s sustainability goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, the piece elaborates on the opportunity to utilize existing buildings within the city. Christopher expands on school’s journey in three parts: One Campus, Three Buildings; Inside-Out Approach; and Outside-In Approach;--elaborating on the individual methods taken for both schools.
