Finegold Alexander is working closely with the City of Cranston on the design and construction of the new 100,000 SF Gladstone Elementary School, to replace an existing 1950’s-era school. With an enrollment of 798 students serving grades K- through 5, the new school will consolidate both Gladstone and Arlington Elementary Schools into one building.
The design of the new school, located on the footprint of the existing building, leverages the topography to create a compact building that maximizes the utilization of site for outdoor play and learning. The school will feature 3+ stories of teaching and learning, with a gymnasium located on the lower level. The layout optimizes the building’s solar orientation to maximize natural daylight and views for both teachers and students.
Structural Design & Precise Construction Execution
Working closely with Odeh Engineers and Gilbane Building Company, the design team explored options for the most cost-effective building foundation designs, factoring in complex construction sequencing, to arrive at the final solution that balances budget, schedule, and maximum utilization of educational space. In the video below, you can see the building foundations and site retaining walls near completion.
