In celebration of Architecture Week, AIA highlighted K-12 education initiatives from five of its chapters across the nation. Erin Flaherty, an associate at Finegold Alexander and Chair of the Education Outreach Committee for the Kansas City AIA chapter, shared her insights on the importance of nurturing a deeper understanding of architectural careers among students.
“The simple answer is, we love what we do, and we want to share it with students to inspire the next generation of architects. Often, students don't know what an architect's day-to-day can look like, so we strive to help them understand what it is we do and what the path looks like to become an architect. Most importantly, we want them to know that this is an attainable career path. Our outreach program helps to put a face to the profession. We want students to know that we're here, we're accessible, and we want to support them.”
