This summer, Gabriela Baierle represented Finegold Alexander as a mentor for the 5-week Architecture & Construction Summer Studio program run by Digital Ready. This program began two years ago to provide high-quality, work-based learning opportunities and no-cost college credits for underrepresented Boston students. The 5-week program ran from July 6th – August 5th and served 22 tech apprentices and nearly all participants identified as Black or Latino. The summer project focused on a large public installation called BeND, which will be installed for public enjoyment at 55 Northern Avenue in the Seaport from late August through October. Digital Ready has served over 100+ students in their architecture studios, and they continue to foster a connected path into architecture for underrepresented students. We are very grateful for their efforts in building a more diverse pipeline of talent into the architectural field.
Gabriela served as a mentor for the students and has shared a few words about her experience.
"I really enjoyed volunteering as a mentor for Digital Ready students. The students I spoke with were curious, eager to learn, and interested about many parts of the process of design and making. They should be so proud of their built work!! The organizing team did a phenomenal job, and I look forward to volunteering again."
