The Residences at Penny Savings Bank
Standing vacant for over 10 years, this project is a complete restoration of the exterior Renaissance Revival style former Penny Savings Bank (ca 1911), adding 3 stories and an underground parking garage. The building provides retail space at the ground level, loft housing in the existing space and 3 floors of new condominium construction. The basement contains parking for 28 cars, storage, and mechanical spaces. The addition was constructed of clear and textured glass juxtaposed with the existing white marble and stone. Its rotated form affords interesting views and responds to local urban influences, thus gaining approval from the South End Landmarks Commission. The project contains 23 luxury condominium units.
