As part of the 1994 National Trust for Historic Preservation Honor Award Recognizing Restoration of Harvard Yard, Finegold Alexander completed the reconfiguration, modernization and restoration of Thayer Hall. The redesign enables and promotes communication among the residents and provides full accessibility into and within the building. To meet changing student needs and to achieve ADA compliance, the building was converted to a traditional corridor system. Previously unused attic space was converted for 16 additional student suites. A freshman dormitory, built in 1869, Thayer Hall, now houses 75 suites for 150 freshmen.
